Drawing Breath, Cooper Gallery

Lys Hansen and Kraig Wilson’s Drawing Breath opens tonight, 6-8pm in the Cooper Gallery, DJCAD.

The show is phase two of Cooper gallery’s Materiality & Metaphysics Series and with Wilson’s works, which “draw attention to the haunting encounter between the mind and the world” positioned alongside Hansen’s drawings, “all of which were made during her visits to Berlin, [and] are a material ‘confrontation with the reality of life and its inherent Beauty and Truth,’” I can understand why.
(Press Release)

Having had a quick peek at the show I am interested in the curation, which positions the works alongside one another without distinguishing between Hansen and Wilson – all framed, sometimes leaning, sometimes propped on shelves or stilts – allowing for parallels and comparisons to be easily drawn. Looking forward to the opening tonight and seeing Wilson’s video work!

Drawing Breath runs until March 30th with an In Conversation event held on March 14th, 11am-1pm in the D'Arcy Thompson Lecture Theatre, Tower Building.
