Waiting for someone to walk with

Walking the boundary lines

video taken by Wahj Jamjoom.

" I noticed rain and traffic and bells so I looked at the bell tower and then I noticed a building I hadn't seen before, so what is the point?"

A very valid question put to me by a lady from the 1pm soundwalk.
I think she answered her own question.

There is something wonderful in the methodical ritual of walking, in these instances, walking silently in the presence of those experiencing your own work. The presence of the artist in the sounds filling the user's head, and the silent presence of the artist walking with the viewer. I wonder who is getting more from this exchange.

Soundwalks continue:

Friday 24th August at 5pm

Saturday 25th August at 4pm

I will also be available during the day on Saturday for unscheduled walks.

May Meet in Mutual

We are excited to see this announcement by some of our Student Curatorial Team alumni about a project happening next week:

We hope you can join us for May Meet In Mutual, which opens next week.

Morgan Cahn, Sarah Johnston, Rebecca Jones, Holly Keasey, Hannah Moitt, Emma Reid, Katie Reid, Beth Savage and Holly Knox Yeoman present site responsive works for this exhibition in the glass walled Park Ranger Centre set within the Baxter Park, Dundee.

Presenting new works from a range of practices that May Meet In Mutual, this exhibition takes its title from an excerpt of the speech Sir David Baxter gave at the opening of the park in 1863. With money made through their successful linen manufacturing firm, Mary Ann, Eleanor and Sir David donated the park in the hopes that it would provide for the people of Dundee,

"a common ground where all may meet in mutual acknowledgement of their dependence the one upon the other."

You are welcome to join us during our Open Install, Thursday August 16th (all day), while the artists arrange and continue to make works in the Park Ranger Centre.

May Meet In Mutual is open on Friday August 17th and Saturday August 18th from 11am-4pm, with an Open Evening on Friday August 17th from 4pm-7pm.

For the duration of the exhibition Morgan Cahn will Me(a)nder: in recognition of the site she will be mending your worn out textiles - so bring those holey socks!

Throughout the exhibition join Holly Keasey for ‘Sew ‘n’ Grow’ an on-going discussion about recreation in the park.

On Saturday August 18th 10.30am - 12.30pm ‘Get Down and Dirty’, do some weeding with the Friends of Baxter Park (meet at the Park Centre). Afterwards Holly Keasey will host ‘Tending Recreation’, in the Park Centre with tea and cakes: a conversation on recreation, our regional climate and a celebration of rain! (from 12.45pm).

May Meet In Mutual is supported by the Maryfield Regeneration Team

Cooper Summer Residency 2012: Making Words - Marking Words

6 July 2012 - 6 August 2012
David Bellingham, Cally Spooner, Jesper List Thomsen
Cooper Summer Residency is a space for artists to reflect upon and experiment with new ideas and strategies that will extend their practice. The residency is based on a desire to investigate the means and potential of working in an environment that supports the exchange and sharing of resources and knowledge. It also provides audiences with an alternative way to observe, encounter and engage with contemporary art.
For this year's residency, we are delighted to host artists David Bellingham, Cally Spooner, Jesper List Thomsen to be in residence at the CAB (Centre for Artists' Books), DJCAD. These three artists share a common focus on Artists' Books and text based works, with an interest in exploring expanded notions of the book, writing and reading within the contexts of space/time and performativity: Cally Spooner, has completed several ambitious solo projects and recently a residency at Cite Des Arts Paris; Jesper List Thomsen, a Danish artist living and working in London who has exhibited internationally; and David Bellingham an artist based in Scotland has also exhibited widely across the UK and abroad.
During the residency period, audiences will be invited to a Meet the Artists event where they will have the chance to engage with the artists' works in progress and have informal discussions with the artists.
Meet the Artists: Thursday 26 July, 2pm, Centrespace, Visual Research Centre. VRC is part of DJCAD and is located on the lower floors of Dundee Contemporary Arts, 152 Nethergate, Dundee.
Cooper Summer Residency 2012 Exhibition: Later in the year there will be an exhibition at Cooper Gallery which opens with a preview event on 20 September and runs until 10 October 2012. Cooper Gallery is in the Crawford Building at DJCAD.
